Minkowski geometry

From Encyclopedia of Mathematics
Jump to: navigation, search

The geometry of a finite-dimensional normed space, that is, an affine space with a Minkowski metric — a metric invariant under parallel translation — in which the role of the unit sphere is played by a given centrally-symmetric convex body.

Comments

Note that the geometry of special relativity theory (cf. Space-time), which is not of this type, is also called Minkowski geometry.
