The Encyclopedia of Mathematics wiki is designed to be an open access resource for the mathematics community to use and update themselves. The original articles that will serve as source material for the wiki are taken from the online Encyclopaedia of Mathematics, published by Kluwer in 1998 and remain copyright to Springer.

With more than 8,000 entries, illuminating nearly 50,000 notions in mathematics, the Encyclopaedia of Mathematics was the most up-to-date graduate-level reference work in the field of mathematics but has become dated over the years with many new topics in mathematics missing.

Springer, in cooperation with the European Mathematical Society, have made the content of this Encyclopedia freely open to the public in the hope that the mathematics community will find it useful and will be motivated to update those topics within their own fields or add new topics in mathematics enabling the wiki to become, and remain, the most up-to-date online mathematics reference work.

Any new articles added to this wiki or any changes made to existing articles will come under the [http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ CC Attribution Share-Alike License]. An editorial team, under the management of the European Mathematical Society, will be monitoring any changes to articles and it is at their complete discretion whether any changes are deleted or altered. For information on who comprises the editorial board, please see the relevant tab on the left hand side of this homepage.

This wiki is a [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki media wiki format], making it possible to insert mathematical equations in LaTeX. For instructions on how this can be achieved, please see the help page.
