: Very nice. But I wonder, why $|f(b_i)-f(a_i)|$ in the classical definition. I am used to $|f(a_{i+1})-f(a_i)|$, and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bounded_variation#Formal_definition Wikipedia] does so.
