A probability distribution which is characterized by the fact that the probability curve has two local maxima, corresponding to two values of the modes (cf. [[Mode|Mode]]). Such a distribution is often the result of  "mixing"  two normal distributions (cf. [[Normal distribution|Normal distribution]]).
